Tierney takes July Athlete of the Month honours

While representing Canada at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, Blake Tierney broke multiple records across two events to earn July Athlete of the Month honours.

Tierney competed in the men’s 200-metre backstroke event and swam to fourth place. In the process, he broke the Canadian record twice, once in preliminary action and then again in semifinals with a time of 1:55.03 seconds.

He also set an individual Canadian record for 100-m backstroke as the lead-off swimmer in the men’s 4×100-m medley relay with a time of 52.95 seconds. As group, the relay team set a record twice, once in the preliminaries and once in the finals, with a time of 3:29.75, breaking a 16-year-old record.

Blake Tierney was nominated by Swim Saskatchewan.
