General Description
The High Performance Coach will work within the HP Coaching Group which is responsible to manage the creation, delivery and enhancement of Basketball Saskatchewan high performance programs and initiatives with primary responsibility in the areas of:
- Delivery of the High Performance Plan
- High Performance Player Development Programs (5v5, 3×3, Indigenous HP for NAIG)
- Head Coaching Responsibilities for a Provincial 15U or 17U Team
- Talent ID
- Administration, Communications and Representation
Organizational Structure
The High Performance Coaches work within a High Performance group that reports to the Executive Director.
Liaison
The High Performance Coaches Group liaises externally with:
- Canada Basketball
- University of Saskatchewan Basketball Programs
- University of Regina Basketball Programs
- Various USport/CCAA/NCAA/Prep School Programs
- SHSAA
- Member Associations
Power of Decision Making
The High Performance Coaches Group has authority to take the measures that are necessary in the daily management of the approved plans, policies and programs. For actions required beyond these limits, the High Performance Coach is required to have decisions approved through the Executive Director.
Specific Responsibilities
- Delivery of the High Performance Plan (major components listed as separate priorities below)
- Development of yearly training calendar that is in alignment with stated objectives
- Ensure key metrics are monitored and met
- Regular review and assessment of the Plan with adjustments made as necessary
- Reporting of progress as needed
- High Performance Player Development
- Delivery of our High Performance Player Programs (5v5, 3×3, Indigenous) including on court training, development and oversite of individual player performance plans, coordinate with Strength and Conditioning trainers, athlete monitoring programs, etc. Some programs may require you to guide/mentor other coaches who will serve as the main training coach.
- Oversite and Delivery of SuperCamp, which serves as both the initial tryout for provincial teams and a weekend immersive experience into High Performance training.
- Head Coaching Responsibilities for a Provincial 15U or 17U Team
- Oversee final tryouts and selection
- Plan and deliver all team practices (min of 40 hours of on court work)
- Incorporate all necessary elements outlined from HP Plan into provincial team training calendar
- Responsible for coaching and team management at all preparation competitions
- Responsible for coaching and team management at National Championships, including working with office staff to ensure that all items that have to be completed ahead of the event are done so in a timely and professional manner
- Identification, recruitment and any necessary mentorship/training for the teams assistant coaching positions
- General administration and management of the team not covered in the above items
- Talent ID
- Development and delivery of plan to identify potential participants for our HP programming (5v5, 3×3, Indigenous)
- Attendance at HOOPLA and Club Championships, Tony Cote Games, NAIG ID Camps etc
- Administration, Communications and Representation
- Regular meetings with the High Performance Group
- Reporting as needed to the Executive Director/Board of Directors
- Documentation
Requirements
- Vulnerable Sector Background Check
- Respect In Sport – All Coaches
- NCCP Train to Compete Certified Valid Drivers License
Compensation and Term Length
The position will be paid a salary of $13,500 per year for a 2 year contract length that will extend through the 2027 National Championships.
All meals/travel/accommodations will be covered for all coaches during the program.
Funding provided for coach development (NCCP/enhanced education).
